Despite huge advances in pitch-detection technology over recent years, converting pitched audio to MIDI data in real time is still a fairly difficult process. While offline processes can quickly convert an audio track into MIDI data, doing this in real time to enable a guitarist to control synths has required considerable investment in hardware, with the guitarist usually having to install hexaphonic pickups and connect their guitar to a dedicated guitar-to-MIDI rackmount unit using a custom DIN cable. However, Sonuus hopes to make life far easier for the guitarist with its new G2M guitar-to-MIDI converter.
