As the personification of everything that was considered wrong with hi-tech music during the 80s and 90s, the drum machine had few equals. While everyone was happy to poke fun at real drummers, they reserved their greatest contempt for the drum machine – ironically because it could do what many drummers were accused of not being able to do: keep good time.
