At first glance you could be forgiven for mistaking the Zoom H4 for just another CompactFlash-based portable recorder. However, closer inspection reveals it to be far more than just a portable recorder: its USB connection enables the H4 to be used as a two-in, two-out audio interface, providing users with access to either the built-in stereo microphone or the pair of combo XLR/TRS inputs via their chosen DAW application. What’s more, the H4 can be used in 4-track mode for basic mixing, and it includes a selection of Zoom’s digital effects.
