Steinberg HALion 3
Steinberg has given HALion 3 a makeover and added in excess of 50 new features. Is this now the definitive software sampler? Keith Gemmell finds out...

Steinberg’s award-winning software sampler began life in 2001, and it’s hard to forget what a stir it caused when first released. Until then, software samplers had always been either standalone applications or plug-ins developed for a specific sequencer. HALion changed all that. Although designed to integrate tightly with Cubase VST, it was (and still is) supplied as a VST instrument plug-in that would work not just with Cubase but other sequencers as well – including the opposition, Logic Audio.
