Once the preserve of bigname composers with hefty bank balances, orchestral sampling has grown into something we can realistically afford. While the big players of virtual orchestration (Vienna Symphonic or Sonic Implants, for example) remain a significant investment, the growth of more affordable libraries has enabled many of us to start experimenting with orchestration in the virtual domain – whether that entails adding a few strings to a dance track or composing a Hollywood-scale orchestral workout.
