Two of the most difficult aspects of mixing and mastering are the achieving of good harmonic balance for individual tracks and the balancing of tracks for an album as a whole. Typically, you adjust the harmonic content of each track during the mixing stage (see Mix Perfect in MTM Issue 11) and then hope they all fit together – tweaking slightly here and there if they don’t.
