Although we’ve reviewed much of Universal Audio’s hardware products in the pages of MTM, the Helios Type 69 EQ is the first time we’ve taken a detailed look at one of the company’s UAD-1 plug-ins. For those of you who haven’t encountered the system before, the UAD-1 card is a PCI-based processing-acceleration system with its own suite of plug-ins, ranging from classic studio hardware such as the Fairchild 670 through to more contemporary production tools like the Precision Series mastering processors. For users running sequencers such as Cubase 4 or Logic Pro, the UAD-1 card has become a strong alternative to mixing on a Pro Tools HD system.
