The concept of the workstation synth was born from Roland’s decision to use wave ROM to emulate the attack of a note in the company’s synths – the attack being the hardest part of an acoustic sound to emulate. The D-50 was the first synth equipped with this technology, featuring a sample playback engine that re-created the attack portion of a note, relying on the synthesis engine for sustain.
