Apple iMac G5
Apple’s iMac gets a G5 processor and a slick new look. Hollin Jones doesn’t want to give it back…

When Apple released the original iMac in 1998, it caused quite a stir. Here was a machine that not only changed people’s perception of what a computer could look like, but also paved the way for new technologies such as FireWire and USB, which today – just a few short years later – are taken for granted. The iMac’s coloured casing – endlessly imitated, but never equalled by PC manufacturers – was a design classic and marked the return of Apple as a driving force in the computer market. It also won Apple’s London-born designer, Jonathan Ive, considerable industry recognition.
