When we reviewed Independence in 2006, we were impressed by its ease of use and flexibility. And with a large sample library, plenty of performance-enhancing functions, an integrated mixer and comprehensive sound design features, it proved itself to be a serious rival to the big hitters of the sampler world, notably Kontakt and GigaStudio. Development on GigaStudio has now ceased, but both Kontakt and MachFive2 have gained ground and now ship with extensive sound libraries.
