Intakt is the latest release in Native Instruments’ collection of sampler software, following on from Kontakt, Kompakt and Battery. It can be used for straightforward sample playback, but primarily it’s designed for looping, slicing, dicing and manipulating your samples in a range of interesting and creative ways. Installation is easy, but you must register the program within 30 days (or it stops working!), and you must register to get updates. Although NI is by no means alone in expecting you to supply personal details before using a relatively inexpensive piece of software, some may find this unacceptable in an age where data protection has become such an issue.
