Popular music, it is generally agreed, requires four key components to create a pleasing harmonic/groove structure: a rhythm track, a bass line, a chordal pattern, and some kind of lead hook motif. But is it possible for a computer to generate these elements and combine them into a viable piece of music? Hard Note Software believes it is, and to prove it has developed Jump, a new application comprising a ‘music theory engine’ plus a broad range of randomisation parameters held together by a logical interface.
