Lexicon I-ONIX U42S
Lexicon’s I•ONIX U42S redefines the look and feel of the USB audio interface, but does its sonic performance match its outward beauty? Mark Cousins finds out.

With very few exceptions, USB audio interfaces tend to be designed along somewhat utilitarian lines, offering a few simple ins and outs to your DAW and a scattering of LEDs to give you visual feedback as to what’s going on, but there’s usually very little in the way of visual appeal. Of course, it isn’t by any means essential that every device in the studio should look glamorous and attractive, but it does seem that the majority of USB audio interface designers are missing a trick.
