Focusrite Liquid Channel

Focusrite’s groundbreaking liquid convolution technology is redefining the fundamental principles of signal processing. Mark Cousins finds out whether the Liquid Channel is a master of all trades.

Price: £2.00
Manufacturer: Focusrite
Website: http://www.ffliquid.com

The route from microphone to tape machine (or hard disk recorder) has long been accepted as one of the most important paths in the recording chain. Get this right, and everything that follows will sound significantly better. Exactly how to achieve this is no great secret, but to attain truly professional results requires an expensive combination of mic preamps, compressors and EQ units. Many top engineers choose to carry around racks of their favourite devices, picking unique combinations of preamps, compressors and EQ units to extract just the right qualities from a given sound. But, even though the cost of most recording technology has dropped in the last ten years, the price of these desirable outboard processors has remained consistently high.

Score: 9
