The Moog brand is arguably the most well-known in the synthesizer world for good reason: the Minimoog D, released in 1971, was among the first affordable, self-contained synthesizers to hit the market. Pioneered by the late Bob Moog, the company’s synths have remained popular ever since, finding fans across the whole spectrum of music, from The Beatles and Stevie Wonder to the Prodigy and any number of electronic acts in between. They were also a staple of movie soundtracks in the 1970s, providing such luminaries as John Carpenter with the sounds for his creepy synthesised scores.
Score: 9
