Apple Logic Express 7
Logic Express 7 has many of the features found in Logic Pro 7 – and it’s significantly cheaper, too. Mark Cousins grapples with a new definition of the word ‘lite’.
Price: £199.00
Manufacturer: Apple

If you’re new to the world of recording or just want to check out alternative audio/MIDI sequencers, the so-called ‘lite’ versions of professional applications are enticing, cost-effective propositions. One of the most successful examples has been Pro Tools LE, which includes most of the features found in the full-blown TDM or HD software, but at a price of just a few hundred pounds. When lite applications succeed, they have sufficient functionality to perform the vast majority of tasks, but don’t come with the kind of top-end tools audio pros might use but novices will rarely miss. Promisingly, Logic Express 7 offers many of the kind of features usually found only in top-end audio applications – indeed, one could even question whether it can be described as a lite application at all.
Score: 9
