Apple Logic Pro 9
The release of Logic Pro 9 has taken many by surprise, but it brings a wealth of new features that aim to broaden the DAW’s appeal. Mark Cousins takes a closer look.
Manufacturer: Apple
Website: http:// www.apple.com/uk

With the dust having barely settled after Apple’s radical reworking of Logic Pro 8 in late 2007, few would have expected a major update of Logic to come quite so soon. However, the intervening 18 months or so have been busy ones for other DAW developers, with Cubase getting numerous improvements as part of version 5, and Pro Tools 8 getting a completely revised GUI and a new set of virtual instruments and plug-ins. And with Propellerhead now unveiling its own take on the DAW – the aptly titled Record – Logic Pro 8 was almost starting to appear outdated due to the speed of innovation elsewhere.
