M-Audio Luna Microphone
Many of today’s mics are based on classic designs from the past, but M-Audio’s Luna is refreshingly original. Huw Price finds out whether it sounds as good as it looks…
Price: £170.00
Manufacturer: M-Audio

It’s easy to see why M-Audio came up with the name ‘Luna’ for this microphone: the capsule housing the new cardioid condenser microphone resembles a big full moon and is mounted on the relatively narrow body. A cynic might suggest that this design was inspired by the desire to produce something recognisable and distinctive in a crowded market. However, there might also be some technical benefits – even if these do occur by default.
Score: 7
