There are more powered, compact MIDI keyboards on the market than you can shake a USB cable at. Some opt for a wealth of features and a higher price tag, others go for simplicity and value. CME’s new M-Key falls into the latter category, being a straightforward 49-key MIDI keyboard with full-size, semi-weighted notes. It’s class-compliant with OSX and Windows, so there’s no need to install a driver – just plug it in via USB and power and MIDI I/O are taken care of. The keys are surprisingly playable for such a compact unit and the four-octave range is sufficient for many purposes. The keys also have four velocity curves to choose from.
