From restoring vintage Neve EQ units through to the development of popular outboard processors such as the EQ-1 and C-1, TL Audio has always kept a keen eye on what inspires the recording musician and engineer – particularly when it comes to the glow of a warm valve. But despite the initial success of its outboard compressors, equalizers and preamps, TL Audio clearly had bigger plans in mind, and in 1999 the company released the first of what was to become a series of valve-based consoles, from the M-1 and M-2 mixers right up to the full-blown VTC valve console. In a world populated by sterile DAWs, TL Audio’s valve-based approach was an attractive one, providing that extra body and warmth that many were struggling to achieve in a solely digital setup.
