Anyone watching this summer’s music festivals will have noticed just how many ostensibly guitar based bands now have small synths onstage with them, usually for a bit of mid-song, one-finger soloing from a lead singer. And then, of course, there’s the current explosion of synthpop bands, who can’t get enough of those 80s-style bleeps and sweeps.
