Yamaha Motif ES7
Sequencing isn’t all about computers and sophisticated software – it can be done on a workstation synth. Bob Dormon checks out Yamaha’s Motif ES7.

If you’re short of space, playing live or just can’t get on with computers, the only viable substitute is a workstation synth which can bring sequencing to your fingertips. The new Yamaha Motif ES7 workstation is such a beast. It has a 76-note velocity and aftertouch-sensitive keyboard that has a pleasingly positive action. Decked out in silver with grey or white legends, it looks like a very capable machine indeed – although the understated layout doesn’t excite in the way that some instruments do.
Score: 8
