Akai MPC500
We’d all like to be able to produce music on the move, but can it be done without a laptop? AKAI thinks so, as Hollin Jones finds out when he road tests the MPC500...
Price: £470.00
Manufacturer: Akai
Website: http://www.akaipro.com

Akai pioneered the development of samplers and popularised the concept of a sampler and sequencer in a single box with its long-running MPC series of machines, favoured by such hip hop luminaries as DJ Shadow. Despite the challenge from the new world of software sampling, the MPC series is still going strong thanks to a section of the music community who were raised on sampling and sequencing in this way rather than using computers. Some new users also find that the more engaging, tactile way of working with pads suits them better than using a mouse and keyboard.
Score: 8
