Steinberg MR816 CSX/CC121
If you want more hands-on control over recording and working in Cubase, Steinberg just might have the answer. Hollin Jones gets familiar with the MR816 and CC121.

The acquisition of Steinberg by Yamaha several years ago has long threatened to produce interesting results, given the two manufacturers’ expertise in software and hardware engineering respectively. Until now, this has consisted mostly of the rather lukewarm Studio Connections system, which hasn’t exactly set the world alight. Taking a large step forward, Steinberg has now created two new Cubase-specific pieces of hardware that work with the latest Cubase 4.5.2 updates on Mac and PC. The MR816 and CC121 are a FireWire interface/DSP unit and a USB hardware controller that do away with many tedious MIDI-specific tasks.
Score: 9
