Rob Crowley and Hugh Tripp followed an unusual path to become microphone builders. Many of their compatriots began as sound engineers and ended up discovering that they were better at repairing and making microphones than actually using them, but these guys started out making catheter-inserted IVUS (intravascular ultrasound) transducers to assess the walls of blood vessels and identify blockages.
