It may not be everyday that we need to take a computer-based recording setup out on location, but doing it even once makes you realise the hassle involved in transporting a static system from one place to another. Having just invested in a new PC, this is something I’ve recently had experience of. Even taking into account the fact that I opted for a rackmount unit, there’s still the problem of lugging around separate monitors and base units – not to mention all the cabling.
