Novation Nocturn keyboard
We’d all like our hardware to be more capable, but how about a MIDI keyboard that can also control any plug-in on your system? Hollin Jones road tests the Nocturn Keyboard.

Novation was once primarily a producer of synthesizer hardware, but the company now makes a wide range of products that combine lots of functionality in a single box. The XioSynth is one such example, being a synth, audio and MIDI interface/ controller all at the same time. And it’s in the field of MIDI control that Novation has most recently focused its attentions, building a number of hardware devices that work with its revolutionary Automap software. Recognising that assignable MIDI maps are great in theory but rather more tedious to use in practice, the aim was to create a better and easier system for providing hands-on control over software without using the mouse.
