The task of making music has become ever more dependant on hi-tech equipment for studio engineers and producers of every level of experience. This is no bad thing when you think about it, as much of what we can lay our hands on today gives us access to techniques that, in the past, involved some rather time-consuming processes. One aspect that has changed little over the years, though, is the art of using a microphone. The first point of contact in the recording chain still remains much as it was in days gone by, and is an area that is sadly neglected at times. There is simply no substitute for investing in a decent microphone when it comes to recording live instruments.
