Having previously looked at Sonnox’s more conventional audio-processing tools (the Dynamics and EQ plug-ins in MTM 51 and 49 respectively), we now turn our attention to one of the most intriguing plug-ins in the Sonnox range – the Oxford Inflator. Like a number of other processors available, Inflator promises to add loudness and impact to your mixes. However, unlike the competition, Inflator doesn’t resort to brickwall limiting to achieve this, but instead uses a somewhat secretive process to ‘change the relative probability of samples’.
