Garritan Personal Orchestra claims to fit an entire symphony orchestra inside your computer. But, as Mark Jenkins asks, does the GPO deliver?

Garritan Personal Orchestra is one of several recent attempts to offer the entire sonic palette of the symphony orchestra in an affordable, easily handled package. Modern sample libraries have become so large that they often require more than one computer to run them effectively, but E-Mu, for instance, used to squeeze an entire orchestral soundset of 32MB into the Proteus 2 module – so how neatly can Garritan present the orchestra in a four-CD set comprising around 2GB of samples?
