Without the cost implications of adding rotary controls, faders and switches which constrain hardware manufacturers, software designers seem to be free to continue loading features into their applications, particularly when the time comes for upgrades. Yet the sheer depth of many of today’s software packages has become something of a double-edged sword. Sure, they offer value for money and all the functionality you’ll ever need, but this has to be balanced against a learning curve so steep it can get in the way of your creativity.
