Edirol R-09HR
Edirol has given its R-09 pocket recorder a high-resolution makeover. Mike Hillier spotlights the changes.
Price: £250.00
Manufacturer: Edirol
Website: http://www.edirol.net

When Edirol first released the R-09, the idea of such small devices being capable of recording at 24-bit/96kHz resolution would have seemed at odds with everything an on-the-go musician would need. File sizes increase once you start bumping up both bit depth and sample rate, and while Flash memory was coming down in price, a 1GB SD card was far from a semi-disposable item. What’s more, for the majority of applications 16-bit/44.1kHz was more than enough – even today, most projects get bounced down to 16-bit/44.1kHz for CD.
Score: 8
