Stage pianos are designed, as the name suggests, to be played. Synths and workstations may have their controllers and buttons pressed more often than their keys, but with anything calling itself a piano, playability is key – but it’s not always successfully carried off, of course. Paying over £1,000 for a digital piano does not guarantee a great action or sound, though it might make a nice piece of furniture. And although it can be the higher-end pianos with integrated stand and speakers that offer the best sound, they are far
from portable. Roland’s track
