The long-awaited new version of Propellerhead’s revered sequencer is here. Hollin Jones gets intimate with Reason 3.0...

When Propellerhead Software released Reason just a few years ago, it was something of a wake-up call for the music technology industry. Entirely self-contained, it proved that software could be written which ticked all the right boxes yet appealed to a wide range of users. It looked and sounded good, didn’t require the latest supercomputer to run it and – most of all – was easy to use. At the other extreme, its modular design meant that the more adventurous could get heavily involved in programming and patching.
Score: 9
