Tannoy Reveal 5A
The market for small active nearfield monitors is highly competitive and crammed with contenders, so are the new Tannoy 5As in with a shout? Huw Price investigates.
Price: £299.00
Manufacturer: Tannoy
Website: http://www.tannoy.com

The latest newcomer to join Tannoy’s revamped Reveal line is the diminutive 5A model. ‘A’ stands for active and in essence they are a stripped-down version of the 8Ds we reviewed in Issue 27. The same style of heavily braced MDF cabinet with tongue-and-groove jointing is used, and there’s a port located on the rear.

I know the review is about the 5D version but I bought a pair of Tannoy Reveal 6D monitors in January 2008 and I've had nothing but trouble with three units having to be replaced within nine months, The pair I have now have, at various times crackled, stopped working completely (needing to be switched off and back on again) and the tweeters died completely months ago.
Really disappointed. Cost me a fortune in wasted time!

Top marks for Tannoy Customer Service - follow-up to my previous comment.
I wrote to the retailer about my troublesome monitors and within a week, Tannoy have contacted me and arranged to replace the faulty units.
Brilliant, really impressed.
