Mackie gear has a reputation for representing excellent value for money and the Tapco S8s are no exception, as Huw Price discovers.

We are all familiar with the Mackie brand, but for many of us, Tapco is an unfamiliar name. In fact, Mackie has simply revived the name of Greg Mackie’s original company, which started making PA mixers back in 1969. The original gear “had more than enough headroom to handle screaming singers, it was priced just right for starving musicians and it was durable enough to withstand wild rides in the tour bus”. Judging by the competitive price of these active monitors, the original mission statement still applies.
