So here we have three small-diaphragm, solid-state transformerless end-fire (sound is picked up from the mic’s end) microphones with satin metallic silver finishes. The no-frills entry-level SE-1A is an updated version of the SE-1, with a fixed cardioid capsule. It’s supplied in a cardboard box with protective foam cutouts and a mic clip. It looks very much like a beefier version of Neumann’s KM84, but there is a raised grey band behind the capsule housing and a bright red SE logo along with the engraved model number and company name.
