The software sampler may have firmly embedded itself in the process of studio production, but when it comes to stepping out of the studio, there’s still a lot to be said for hardware sampling systems. Take the Boss SP-303, for example: this diminutive sampler was pitched at DJs looking for a basic, uncomplicated sampling system they could use on the fly – no software pages crammed full of intricate editing features, just a tool that samples and plays!
