From early Sony reverb hardware to the more recent Space Designer plug-in for Logic, by now most of us have had some experience of convolution-based effects. Convolution reverb involves digitally simulating the ambience of a physical space using an impulse recording. The idea was taken further by hardware manufacturers such as Focusrite, whose Liquid Mix unit has impulse responses for various classic EQ and compression gear. The new Speakerphone 2 plug-in from Audio Ease cranks things up another notch, offering a staggering array of simulated speakers, amps and phones.
