Once upon a time, it used to be the case that when you purchased an amp you were – to a certain extent at least – making a statement about the kind of sounds you wanted to make, with even the most flexible of amps providing only a limited range of tonal options. As amp technology evolved, however, the flexibility increased a little, but you still needed a Vox if you wanted to reproduce that classic Beatles rock’n’roll sound, a Fender Twin for gritty blues or a Marshall for that early 70s metal scream.
Score: 8
