M-Audio Sputnik
Is M-Audio’s new Sputnik the ‘sonic bridge’ between a Neumann U47 and an AKG C12? Huw Price blasts off...
Price: £479.00
Manufacturer: M-Audio

M-Audio’s latest microphone offering is a serious package indeed. In addition to the valve electronics you get three pickup patterns, 80Hz bass rolloff and 10dB attenuation switching, a shockmount and a metal flightcase. And because this is a valve mic, you get a dedicated outboard power supply too, plus a 7-pin connecting cable with a Cannon plug at either end. Given the voltages involved, we’re not that impressed by the rather skinny connecting pins, but we’re certainly not suggesting that they’re unsafe.
