There are some fantastic audio effects to be had in software form these days, but there must still be some applications remaining for the good old hardware processor. Yamaha, at least, seems to think so – and the veteran developers there should know. The SPX90 was one of the earliest MIDI multi-effects units, one of a long and particularly successful line which has led to the recently released SPX2000 multi-effects processor.
