Yamaha’s portable PA range is getting bigger and louder. Mike Hillier takes to the road with the Stagepas 500.

Yamaha’s latest portable PA solution combines a 10-channel powered mixer with two passive speaker cabinets. Like the smaller, less powerful Stagepas 300, the mixer can be mounted within one of the speaker cabinets or it can be removed for easier access. This design aesthetic enables the system to deliver a considerable amount of power while occupying only a small amount of stage (or storage) space as well as improving portability. What’s more, the loudspeaker that doesn’t house the mixer is fitted with a storage compartment that can be used to store cables and a couple of microphones.
