When we reviewed Gary Garritan’s Stradivari Solo Violin almost a year ago, we gave it an MTM Excellence Award. Technically innovative, it struck us as a truly remarkable virtual instrument with unprecedented real-time control. However, to use it you needed a copy of Native Instrument’s flagship sample player, Kontakt 2, which hiked up the price considerably if you didn’t already have it. But Garritan has just released version 2.01, which bundles the Kontakt 2 Player with Stradivari to make it a software instrument that works as a plug-in in most popular sequencers. It’s also Intel Mac-compatible and includes a new, warmer-sounding violin patch as well as several other improvements, including integration with the forthcoming Finale 2007.
