Applied Acoustics Systems String Studio VS-1
Can the latest offering from AAS string up other synths? Mike Hillier ties it down.
Price: £110.00
Manufacturer: Applied Acoustics Systems
Website: http://www.applied-acoustics.com
Applied Acoustic Systems is no stranger to physical modelling. Indeed, the firm’s other synths – Lounge Lizard, Ultra Analog and Tassman – all employ this particular kind of synthesis in some way. Physical modelling itself has come to the fore recently as computers have become more powerful and are now capable of dealing with the complex DSP algorithms it entails. Reflecting that is the fact that more and more software packages now include a physical modelling synth – Logic Pro 7, for example, comes with Sculpture built-in.
Score: 8
