Entering the world of computer recording is a daunting experience, but the results – as anyone who has tried will know – are well worth the effort. While magazines such as MTM can make purchasing decisions easier and help you learn recording processes and techniques, the biggest obstacle to becoming a recording musician is often the cost of the necessary equipment and software. But if a full-blown version of Cubase is beyond your means, don’t throw in the towel just yet, because many of the pro versions of the most popular music production packages are available as trimmed-down, cheaper ‘lite’ versions.
