Ever since the Beatles travelled to India and George Harrison applied the group’s Midas Touch to the sitar and tabla; western music has been influenced by Indian instruments. Anyone interested in adding the drones of a sitar to their music, though, may be dismayed to hear that learning the sitar isn’t all that easy – indeed, one of the most famous sitar exponents of all time, Ravi Shankar, went as far as to suggest that it could take two lifetimes to master.
