The development of the first FireWire audio interface – MOTU’s 828 – was a significant turning point for musicians producing music on a laptop. The FireWire 828 offered significantly greater bandwidth over existing USB audio interfaces, enabling users to record a full eight channels of 24-bit, 44.1kHz audio, making laptop recording and production a more serious proposition.
