Despite second-hand prices for vintage drum synths such as the Roland 808 or 909 reaching record levels, most modern equivalents use sampling, as opposed to synthesis, to generate their sounds. Never one to follow a crowd, however, plug-in developer Audio Damage has released a drum machine based on synthesis as its first virtual instrument.
