While the major samples developers concentrate on multi-gigabyte orchestral libraries and highly expressive virtual pianos, it’s pleasing to see smaller fringe developers applying just as much effort on producing what could be called ‘niche’ products. One great example of this is Tonehammer, a company set up by Troels Folmann and Mike Peaslee to produce a range of eclectic instrument libraries focusing on everything from bamboo sticks to hang dums and collections of metallic instruments evocatively entitled Rust.
